I learned to embrace these words in 2009. At the height of Sarina’s schooling, ready to move on, she became gravely ill. Back in the hospital and on the respirator for two weeks, her lung disease stopped everything.

It put a painful hold on her future and taught us that being an Empty Nester was not yet on our life’s path.

It’s when I understood obstacles don’t just disappear because they won’t, but in fact, they have sisters and brothers and a whole gang of extended family members teaching us the lessons we need to learn and to grow.
